Lazy Sunday in Medellín

I can’t believe I’m in Medellín. Of all the places I knew of in Colombia this was probably the place that was most tainted in my mind with drug cartels. And now here I am, and it seems lovely.

I arrived bleary-eyed this morning to the North Bus Terminal, and got the Metro to my hostel here in the Patio Bonito barrio. The hostel had to wait for people to check out to see if they had a room. So that wasn’t going to be until about 11 or so. I went off to a local bakery for breakfast, and even taking my time it was still only 8.30. So I came back and fell asleep in the TV room. Anyway, I got my room, and at a discount because there isn’t a TV (which I never use anyway).

In the afternoon I took a wander up to Poblado, which is supposed to be the happening spot. But not on a Sunday afternoon it’s not, so it’s a nice easy day.

I was talking to another guest earlier, who works on Big Brother in the UK and Canada, and he recommended the walking tour which goes in the morning, so I might pop out to reception now to see if I can get on it.
